Carla's Clay is operated by artist Carla O'Brien. The studio space spans over 5,000 square feet -- a clean, open environment that comfortably sits over 75 people for a large workshop complete with pottery supplies, kilns, and more!
About Carla O'Brien
Carla O’Brien was born and raised in upstate New York and has been in central Florida since 1981.
She found her love for the art of pottery in 1974 while she was a junior at Lowville Academy and Central School. During her junior and senior years she developed her basic skills and style under the direction of Thea Wolfe.
Despite the fact that she was assisting in the operation of the family farm and was the senior class president, pottery was her first love. She has pursued it to the point of a career, establishing Carla’s Clay Studio and Gallery, which is located in Sarasota, Florida.
Carla continued her education attending Munson Williams Proctor School of Art. Her development in the art of clay grew as she took on the opportunity to learn from renowned potters through classes and workshops. In 1997 Carla began teaching professionally at Sarasota Votech and the Longboat Key Center for the Arts. Carla is renowned for her work and has had several pieces displayed at the Selby Gallery, Sarasota Arts Center, Lieberman Gallery, Paradox Gallery and the Sarasota Opera House.
Her work extends into the private sector being included in many private collections. Her professional affiliations include, The American Crafts Council, Florida Craftsmen and the Longboat Key Center for the Arts.
